Pastoral Associate’s Lecture Series

Pastoral Associate’s Lecture Series

Contemporary Catholic Christians find themselves facing many questions. What does it mean to be a follower of Jesus today? How does Catholicism fit in to the larger Christian landscape? How about the landscape of the world’s religions? How are Christians called to engage with the ecological crisis? The refugee crisis? The food crisis? How are Catholic Christians called to counter the cultural norms of our day and how are we called to use them? How have some of the Church’s teachings come to exist, and what role do they play in the lives of modern Christians? Exploration of these and other topics happens the 3rd Sunday of the month at 6:00pm in the lower level of the church. Lectures are sometimes given by Dr. Elizabeth Woodard, pastoral associate, and sometimes by a guest lecturer. For more information, please email pastoralassociate@holyfamilyconcord.org.

BY POPULAR DEMAND:

The February 17 presentation entitled “Vulnerability & Cruciformity: Catholic Theology in Dialogue with the work of Dr. Brene Brown” was such a hit that we’re offering a more extended version in the form of a one-day retreat!  Please give yourself the treat of watching Brown’s TED talk HERE. If you enjoyed the talk, or if you enjoy the video, please consider joining us on Saturday, September 21 in the lower level (the same location as the lectures) 10am-6pm for our one-day Vulnerability & Cruciformity Retreat led by Dr. Elizabeth Smith. Practice skills such as empathy and vulnerability, learn important concepts such as the difference between guilt and shame, and allow your spirit to enjoy some of the fundamentals of Christian truth and joy translated through the lens of modern psychology. The cost is free, and no registration is required, but please email Elizabeth at pastoralassociate@holyfamilyconcord.org if you know you’ll be coming so we can plan for food. We hope you join us!
